Becoming A Client

If you are interested in becoming a client of James Walsh Accountant Limited please contact us using the details in the Contact Us section.

All clients are initially met by one of our staff who will discuss your specific requirements with you. We offer an initial meeting not exceeding one hour free of charge.

Please could you bring the following to this initial meeting:

  • Two forms of identification (including at least one photographic ID and a utility bill)
  • Your books and records
  • Any other information relevant to the discussion

Under the Anti Money Laundering Legislation 2007 we are required formally identify our clients. This is a requirement of all legal and accountancy practices and we ask that you do not take offence when this is requested. The ID requested for the first meeting is for this purpose.

Further information on the Anti Money Laundering Legislation is available from the Legal Information menu available from the home page.

Your books, records and other information relevant to the discussion, is requested to enable us to estimate our fees. As all businesses operate differently and keep varying records, our work is bespoke and difficult to fit into broad quotes. We aim to maintain a clear pricing policy from the start and throughout our business relationship so that you know where you stand.

If you are accepted as a client, and we are accepted by you as your accountant, we will ask you to complete a form 64-8. This is an authority form which will enable us to correspond with HM Revenue and Customs on your behalf. Without this ‘agent authority’ HM Revenue and Customs will not discuss your affairs with us.

In addition to the 64-8 you will also be asked to sign an engagement letter confirming the terms and conditions of our appointment as your agent. The purpose of the engagement letter is to clearly outline our respective responsibilities to prevent misunderstandings. This approach is common to the accountancy profession and is requested by our regulator, The Association of International Accountants, to prevent disputes.

Other forms and documents may require signature on the day depending on your individual needs. Such forms may include:

  • Registration as a self employed person
  • Registration under the CIS Scheme
  • Registration for Class 2 National Insurance
  • Registration for VAT
  • Registration of a PAYE Scheme
  • Other statutory or tax forms as required

Any forms or documents will be clearly discussed with you at the meeting.
